My love of painting began at an early age, as I stood fascinated beside my sign writer grandfather as he painted and then so magically applied gold leaf to his work. This sparked my interest in historical methods and materials in particular those of the medieval painters and illuminators, and the artists of the renaissance.
I enjoy exploring the use of different media specifically graphite; the medieval technique of metalpoint; and painting on vellum and the subtlety of line and texture these media can produce.
I am fascinated by the effect of light on form and how the use of contrast and tone with the different media can be used to portray the detail, pattern and structure of the natural world.
I exhibit regularly, teach workshops and classes and my work features in a number of collections and publications.
